About the Therapist

I am a seasoned counselor and therapist with over 20 years experience in the field.  I have extensive experience working with trauma survivors and with people who have chronic or life-limiting illnesses.  For many years, I worked with domestic violence survivors and women who had experienced abuse and violence both in childhood and in adulthood.  Following that, I worked in hospice and in medical settings, helping people with their illness-related challenges and end of life issues.

More recently, as my own life circumstances have been changed by motherhood, my focus has been more on family, child and relationship issues.  In an effort to become a better parent myself, I went back to school to learn more about children and how to communicate with them, so I have learned many effective tips and techniques.  I decided to open a counseling practice to be better able to share this knowledge in a private and comfortable setting.

I graduated from Tulane University New Orleans in 1997 with a Master of Social Work and have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2000.  I am a Registered Play Therapist with specialized training in Play Therapy and in Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT), obtained at Loyola University's Center of Play Therapy Education. My approach is eclectic, but humanistic with an understanding that with genuineness, acceptance and empathy all people will move towards healing and self-actualization. The tools we use to get there will depend upon your own needs and personalities, but is client-centered, mindfulness based, trauma informed and rooted in attachment theory. I believe in the power of talk and play therapy.

Recently, I have moved from New Orleans to Asheville and look forward to broadening my practice to the mountains of North Carolina.  If you'd like to meet with me, please contact me.  I look forward to hearing from you and in helping you to begin to live the life you want.

I am available for video sessions at this time.
Most insurance companies are allowing and reimbursing for internet therapy during the Covid-19 outbreak.
